Madam (Twigg),

I am commanded by the Air Council to express to you their grave concern on learning from cusualties Officer of the Royal Canadian Air Force the further news that your husband, Wing Commander John Despard Twigg, is now believed to have lost his life as the result ot the air operations on the night of 28/29th August, 1942. Two of the members of uour husband’s crew reached safety and have reported that their aircraft was attacked by a German night fighter and its controls were shot away when it was over the Dinant area, Belgium. Your husband « baled out » after his crew but one of the two who have reached safety later encountered a woman who stated that she had found a body a mile distant and from the description given he is convinced that the body was that of your husband.
