on January 13th the squadron was taking part in an operation over the front lineq, attacking ground targets. During the attack, when Bill was temporarily separated from the rest of the squadron, he was heard to say that he was going to attack some enemy transport. When the squadron returned to base a few minutes later Bill was missing and nothing further has been heard of him
